Scott Boilard
“Scott Boilard may describe his work as figurative surrealism. To the viewers, we are taken in by his imaginative narratives. Pulled into a deep surrealist world of figures, creatures and body parts, often juxtaposed and layered, Scott creates a visual feast for our eyes. Boilard stands out as truly unique and in today’s art world, which we all know is extremely hard to accomplish.”

Title
The Triumph of Memory
Scott Boilard is a painter of physical entities both familiar and unearthly. His work shows a love of traditional rendering mixed with the spontaneity of modern composition and color. His pieces are a part of many private collections.
Born in Worcester Massachusetts, Scott has been drawing for as long as he can remember. Influenced by the fantastic in art and film, he spent countless hours studying and rendering all the variations of the natural world. He pursued formal study in illustration and fine arts at the Art Institute of Boston. There he found inspiration in the illustrators of the early 20th century and the Abstract Expressionists of the 40's and 50's. He honed his technical skills with figure drawing and oil painting, all the while being entrusted as a peer mentor. He completed his time at the Art Institute with high honors.
In 2001, after years of doing freelance illustration Scott's desire for freedom and control in his work led him to pursue a career as a fine artist. Since then he has exhibited in group, juried, and solo shows in Central Massachusetts, New York and Russia.
Scott Boilard is also well known in the New England mural community for his work in Pow Wow Worcester and other murals around the City of Worcester, MA. His small works are sought after and collected by festival goers, who arrive before opening to be the first at his booth.
Boilard’s oeuvre is deserving of global attention, in a class of his own. A maestro of light, he is a contemporary surrealist that everyone should know about. Each painting is a psychoanalytic adventure that captivate and evidence that perhaps something deep within him, his subconscious is the actual guide to his innovative creation process. Never one to share what the paintings mean, Boilard allows the viewer to discern their own experience. He paints with free association, that bypasses a conscious control. Scott Bollard’s work is a result of a flow of imagination uninhibited by reason, but of pure, original ideas.
